A great question that parents ask is, when should their child have their first eye exam? While vision screenings at school and the pediatrician’s office are a good start to identify vision and eye health issues, they often miss vision problems. The American Optometric Association recommends children have an eye exam before 12 months of age, between 3 and 5 years old, and before starting school. Parents may think that their child doesn’t need to see an optometrist unless they complain of vision problems, but this can be problematic because children often don’t realize they are having issues. If a child has only ever had blurry vision, they may assume that’s the way they are supposed to see. If you haven’t already done so, call our office or click the "Make an Appointment" button on our website to schedule your son or daughter’s first eye exam.
