Dr. Robert Sandlin
Dr. Robert Sandlin is originally from Cullman, Alabama. He has a Bachelor's Degree with a major in Physics, a Master's Degree in Vision Science, and a Doctorate of Optometry (4 additional years) all from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Sandlin has practiced in Athens for over 30 years and has a special interest in the medical treatment of Glaucoma and also Diabetic Retinopathy. He and his wife Carol have two grown children- a son who is an anesthesiologist and a daughter who is also an optometrist, who practices in Birmingham, Alabama. In his off time, Dr. Sandlin enjoys traveling to historical sites, tennis, and golf.


Dr. Megan Evans
Dr. Megan Morris Evans was born and raised in Athens, Alabama. After graduating from Athens High School, she received her Bachelors of Science in biology from the University of Alabama-Huntsville. She then attended Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, where she earned her Doctorate of Optometry. Dr. Evans completed clinical internships in ocular disease, contact lens, low vision, pediatrics, and vision therapy. Dr. Evans provides comprehensive eye care, including the diagnosis and medical treatment of eye diseases, as well as routine vision care and ocular emergencies. Dr. Evans is active in her church and local philanthropic organizations. She and her husband, Taylor, have one daughter and reside in Athens.


Dr. Gregory Stewart
Dr. Gregory Stewart is originally from Birmingham, Alabama, where he attended John Carroll High School. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from the University of Mississippi. Following that he earned his Doctorate from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. Dr. Stewart diagnoses and treats all eye diseases including glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, dry eye syndrome, conjunctivitis, iritis, and corneal diseases. He also performs routine eye examinations and contact lenses evaluations. He is married to Claire, a local elementary school teacher. In his free time he enjoys reading, being outdoors, and watching college football.


Carol Sandlin, RN
Carol Burmester Sandlin was salutatorian of her class at Cullman High School. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from UAH, and was selected as a member of Sigma Theta Tau, a nursing honor society. She was a nurse at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham, one of Alabama’s leading hospitals. After moving to Athens, she was a nurse in the intensive care unit at Athens-Limestone Hospital. She has worked as a nurse and optician in our office since 1986.
